Personal resumes cannot be accepted in lieu of an application for employment with the City of Kinston. When applying with the City, it is important that you obtain and fully complete the City’s employment application form. A personal resume may be attached to a completed application. A separate application is required for each position for which you apply.
It is the policy of the City of Kinston that employment applications are accepted only for advertised vacant positions. If you are seeking employment in a position which is not currently being advertised, you are encouraged to visit us or contact us by phone, mail or e-mail to request that an Employment Interest Card be completed. Providing us with your name, address, telephone number and the position/department in which you are interested in will enable us to notify you when we are recruiting for the position of your choosing. Employment Interest Cards will remain on file until the specified position is advertised or six (6) months, whichever occurs first.
The City of Kinston is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy and drug-free workplace. Therefore, successful candidates for employment with the City must submit to a pre-placement medical screening which includes a drug-screening. In addition, successful candidates for all positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license and a satisfactory driver history. Some positions require applicants to obtain a CDL permit license within 30 days of employment and CDL license within 90 days of obtaining the CDL permit. Those applicants who possess a valid out-of-state driver's license are encouraged to obtain a certified copy of their driver's history and to submit it with their application to ensure prompt processing.
