The functions of the Environmental Services section include providing professional, reliable and efficient collection, transportation and disposal of residential and commercial garbage, vegetative and non-vegetative trash, white goods, residential recyclable materials, and leaves during leaf season.

Environmental Services also provides vector control to minimize the mosquito population in Kinston. Known breeding sites are treated routinely to control the population and our technician sprays neighborhoods for mosquitos periodically during warm weather months and also applies larvicides in ditches and other areas of standing water where mosquitos breed.

Vector control also provides rat poison to residents year-round. Residents may call (252)939-3282 to make a request, which we will deliver at no charge. Although we do not administer the poison, the technician who delivers the poison will be able to provide the resident with advice on proper handling and placement.

The Environmental Services section is one of the largest sections in the Public Services Department.  Our employees are dedicated to excellent customer service and we proudly serve the citizens of Kinston each day.
