MembersThe Utilities Advisory Commission is composed of 7 members residing within the City of Kinston's utility service area. Five members shall reside within the corporate limits of the City and two members shall reside outside the corporate limits of the City. All members must be customers or employees of an industrial/business customer of the City of Kinston utility systems at the time of their appointment to the commission.
Members are appointed to staggered 4-year terms. At the discretion of the City Council, commission members may serve consecutive terms. Members appointed to fill an unexpired term shall be entitled, at the discretion of the City Council, to appointment for consecutive 4-year terms at the expiration of the unexpired term to which they are appointed. The term of the chairman, vice-chairman and any other officers shall be for 1-year with eligibility for re-election. The City Manager and/or Director of Public Services shall serve as ex-officio, nonvoting members.
Commission members shall be customers of recognized ability and sound business judgment, who in the opinion of the city council can understand the complexities of utility services and finance and who will perform their official duties in the best interests of the city and the customers of its utility systems. Effort will be made by the city council to select individuals who are so qualified and who represent the demographics of the city and county.
