Roles & History
Sgt. McLawhorn has served his community for many years. He was initially hired by the Kinston Police Department in 1998 and served in the patrol division. He ultimately left to become a NC State Trooper where he very proudly served the State of NC. Sgt. McLawhorn came back home to the city of Kinston in 2019 where he served on patrol and K9. He was very quickly promoted to the Sgt. of the Narcotics Unit. Sgt. McLawhorn is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor. He utilizes his teaching acumens instructing in the disciplines of Firearms instructor, Hazardous Materials, Rapid Deployment and the Incident Command System (ICS). Most recently Sgt. McLawhorn assumed the role of the department's Training Coordinator.

Education
Sgt. McLawhorn possesses an Associate of Art's degree and continually improves himself through available self-initiated law enforcement related classes.
