2. Eligibility Criteria
   1. Athlete
      1. Any athlete may be nominated after 10 years following their graduation from high school.
      2. Athletes should have distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while participating in a Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Program or while a student at a Lenoir County School or Lenoir Community College above and beyond normal standards.
      3. Athletes may include establishment of individual or team school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
      4. Athletes may have been selected to all-conference, all-district, all-state, or national honors.
      5. Athletes may have qualified as an individual or team to district, state, or national level competitions.
      6. Athletes will be considered on their achievements on the athletic field and community leadership and the advancement to their sport.
      7. Athletes must be persons of integrity and character.
   2. Team
      1. Any team may be nominated after 10 years from the season to be nominated.
      2. Teams should have represented their school and sport at a high level above and beyond the normal standards.
      3. Teams may include establishment of team school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
      4. State championship teams are automatically nominated 10 years after completion of their championship season.
   3. Coach
      1. Any coach may be nominated after having coached in Lenoir County AND be removed from coaching in Lenoir County for 3 years. Exceptions may be made if the coach has been in Lenoir County for 20+ years.
      2. Coaches should have distinguished himself/herself in their sport above and beyond the normal standards.
      3. Coaches may include establishment of individual or team school, conference, state, or national records or championships.
      4. Coaches may have had athletes been selected to all-conference, all-district, all-state, or national honors.
      5. Coaches may have had individuals or teams qualify to district, state, or national level competitions.
      6. Coaches will be considered on their recognition as an authority or leader in the sport area(s) involved, their ability to motivate players, and the length and quality of their coaching tenure.
      7. Coaches must be persons of integrity and character.
   4. Recreation
      1. Any recreation staff may be nominated after retirement from the recreation department for 3 years. Exceptions may be made if the staff person has been in Lenoir County for 20+ years.
      2. Recreation staff must be persons of integrity and character.
   5. Sports Contributor
      1. A sports contributor is defined “as an individual/group who has helped develop & foster growth of athletics in Lenoir County.”
      2. Any sports contributor may be nominated at any time.
      3. Sports contributors will be considered on their unique contributions to athletic programs in Kinston/Lenoir County.
   6. Special Circumstances
      1. Under unique circumstances, the Hall of Fame committee has the ability to waive the number of years and/or graduation requirement for any category with a 2/3 majority vote.
      2. Any person(s) meeting the following criteria shall be automatically added to the candidate pool at the next voting cycle.
         1. Named to any national/state sports hall of fame.
         2. Achieved a sports world record.
         3. Participated in the Olympics, World Games, or been a representative of any country at the international level.
         4. Played/coached for or won an amateur national championship or professional championship as a team or individual.
         5. Received a major award at the collegiate (Heisman, Golden Spikes, Wooden, etc.) or professional (MVP, ROY, etc.) level.
         6. Named a First-Team All-American in college or All-Star at the professional Level.
         7. Named coach of the year at the collegiate or professional level.
   7. Recommended Qualifications
      1. Teams or individuals who won a state or national championship.
      2. Named to All-State in high school.
      3. Coach of the year as named by the state coaches association for their sport.
      4. School/State/National record holder.
